Hi Everyone,
In the first week of the holidays, on Wednesday I was lucky enough to go to Fiji for a week with my family. We went there because my dad just finished riding a bike around Australia (see next post) and we chose Fiji so he could have some time to relax. On the day we had to wake up at 5:15 am to get ready because our flight was at 8 o’clock and I was yawning all the way to the airport.
The plane ride took approx. 3 and a half hours and when we got there I felt like I was in a sauna, in other words it was so HOT! All the way through customs and other places in the airport I felt like I was dying because I was dressed in winter/spring clothes. We stayed at the InterContinental Hotel and it was right by the beach! YAY! As soon as we got our bags we went swimming in the pool for 2 hours. We had dinner and we went to bed.
The next day we went to the beach as well as the pool and while we were at the beach we went snorkeling and we saw many fish and sea snakes. We caught crabs and hermit crabs and put them into a bucket and we had a hermit crab race. To have a hermit crab race we drew a big circle in the sand and we put the hermit crabs into the middle and we said ready, set, GO! We let them come out of their shells and run to any edge of the circle and the crab who reached any edge won the race.
For a few days we did the same thing, the pool, the beach, but one day we went out in a boat and we went fishing. My brother had been asking my dad for days if we could go fishing but he had said no but one day he said yes and that was the day that we went fishing. For an hour we didn’t catch anything but the next hour my dad was lucky, he caught a big Spanish Mackerel and it was jumping around on the deck and my brother caught a small Coral Trout.
On the second last night of our stay my parents went out to dinner while my brother, my sister and I had a baby sitter and we went to the kids club for an hour and a half and the things that we did was night volleyball, relays, hermit crab races and watched a movie. In the hermit crab races I came second so I got a prize which was a bag.
When we woke up we did the normal things but with packing our stuff to get ready to go back to the cold, windy weather in Sydney. It took an hour to get to the airport and this time the flight took 2 and a half hours to get back to Sydney. I was surprised at how cold it was and I was glad to get home. Fiji was awesome and I highly recommend it! ๐
Enjoy,
Laura
