Sorry I haven’t writing for ages…. I have never had the time to just sit down and write a blog post! So this blog post is going to be about an American Box.
About a week ago, at school, we got a box in the post from America with all kinds of stuff from America. It was sent to us by another class all the way over the other side of the world! They sent us many things like a Girlfriend magazine, Birthday Oreos, all these brochures, photos, an American flag, all different things. We have those things on display outside our classrooms, and now we are going to send a box back to them. We have put in things like Vegemite, Timtams, Australian flag, inflatable beach ball, all things that are Australian! I think we might have already sent it but I don’t know how long it would take to get there, probably a month? 😀
Sorry I haven’t been writing in a while………but IT’S CHRISTMAS!!! or was Christmas…..I had a great time on Christmas day and I was lucky enough to go to Queensland for the holidays and in Queensland it was horrible for the first week as in the weather cold, raining, cold. But then on Christmas day the sun came out and all was good.
Some things I got for Christmas was:
A PS3 (to share with my brother) ( If you don’t know what a PS3 is it is a Playstation3 and it is a type of game system)
A really special bracelet made out of pink opals and a pearl
2 iTunes vouchers
and heaps more. (which I can’t remember at the moment…..oops)
But it isn’t really about getting/receiving presents, it is about the time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and we share our joy of his birth by giving and receiving presents to each other. That’s why at Christmas we sing Christmas carols that have Jesus mentioned in them for example there is Away In A Manger, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, Joy To The World and heaps more. That whole part of the post was about Christmas but this part now is about New Year’s Eve which is happening right now.
The time right now is 10:47pm (in Queensland) so the time in Sydney is 11:47pm and I am going good so far with staying up late until midnight. We watched the 9 o’clock fireworks on TV and they looked awesome!!! I wish I was there!!! I can’t believe that tomorrow it is next year!! So I can say to my mum when I go to bed (if she is still up) ‘See you next year!!’ I can’t wait until next year and I hope the world doesn’t end!! (The movie ‘2012’) 😛
This happened a long time ago but I didn’t have enough time to write about it. My dad did an awesome thing to raise money for kids with rare diseases, guess what?! He rode on a bike around Australia just for kids!! Their charity is called Cycle For SMILE. He rode 15,700 kilometres around Australia and it took 80 days. He did it with 5 other men and they raised a total of 1.2 million dollars which they will share out to millions of families who have disabled kids.
Every day they rode about 200-300 kilometres across the border of Australia and that would be about 8 to 11 hours on the bike. My family visited my dad and the team in Queensland and Western Australia to be specific it means for Queensland it was in Brisbane and in Western Australia it means from Broome to Perth.
In one part of the trip my family not including my dad but including my grandma and grandpa hired a campervan and DROVE from Broome which is high up in WA to Perth which is down at the bottom of WA. It took 9 days to drive and we at least had 5 hours in the campervan every day. We practically followed my dad and the team as they rode long hours each day.
I am so proud of my dad for achieving this achievement (that sounded weird) because it made me believe that you can do anything if you try. I hope that you could try something new and achieve your goal. 😛
P.S The pictures are the teams route around Australia and their logo.
For homework this week I have to answer a few questions if I was the Year 5 teacher. The first question is:
If you were the Year 5 Teacher what would you change?
I would change the fact that we can’t have our phones in the classroom because they can be used for educational things as well as games and non – educational things. We actually had a discussion about that on our class blog and we had to say what we think for last week’s homework. So I think that the thing to change is mobile phones. I would also change the seating arrangement so everyone can get to know each other better and be better friends.
What would you add?
I would add having the priviledge to have air – conditioning in the classroom and being able to bring thongs (flip flops) in on a certain day so we can kick our school shoes off and wear COMFORTABLE shoes and especially on hot days.
What would you take away?
I wouldn’t take away anything because Year 5 is perfect as it is with all the great teachers and students!!!
These were my questions and answers for this part of the homework this week. What is your opinion?? 😛
Guess what?! Our parents have to do homework!! I am really excited about this week because our parents have to do homework because it is our last homework of the year. Either they have to both do it or your mum or your dad. They have to do all their homework which is including really hard spelling words like one of them is supersede and heaps more that we have to test them on. They also have to complete a survey on our class blog about our homework and if they think it is a reasonable amount of homework that we are getting. My mum and dad couldn’t believe it when I told them about it. I hope you can comment on this post about what you think about this whole thing. Good Luck Mum and Dad!! 😛
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Tonight is Halloween, 31st of October and I am not celebrating it. Why, you ask and I say that we haven’t really prepared for it. (Sorry to all Halloween lovers.) Last year I was able to go trick or treating as a devil but this year I just didn’t do it. Just then some people rang our doorbell for Halloween but we didn’t answer it and pretended we weren’t home. (Sorry, we didn’t buy any lollies!! :P)
In case you are from another country and you don’t celebrate halloween this is what it is. Halloween is a holiday where you can dress up as something scary like a vampire, devil etc. and go from door to door saying trick or treat and getting lollies from people. Sometimes you can just stay home and watch a horror movie or throw a halloween party.
I hope you enjoy your own halloween! What did you dress up as?? Did you celebrate halloween?? HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! (in a spooky voice) 😛
In the first week of the holidays, on Wednesday I was lucky enough to go to Fiji for a week with my family. We went there because my dad just finished riding a bike around Australia (see next post) and we chose Fiji so he could have some time to relax. On the day we had to wake up at 5:15 am to get ready because our flight was at 8 o’clock and I was yawning all the way to the airport.
The plane ride took approx. 3 and a half hours and when we got there I felt like I was in a sauna, in other words it was so HOT! All the way through customs and other places in the airport I felt like I was dying because I was dressed in winter/spring clothes. We stayed at the InterContinental Hotel and it was right by the beach! YAY! As soon as we got our bags we went swimming in the pool for 2 hours. We had dinner and we went to bed.
The next day we went to the beach as well as the pool and while we were at the beach we went snorkeling and we saw many fish and sea snakes. We caught crabs and hermit crabs and put them into a bucket and we had a hermit crab race. To have a hermit crab race we drew a big circle in the sand and we put the hermit crabs into the middle and we said ready, set, GO! We let them come out of their shells and run to any edge of the circle and the crab who reached any edge won the race.
For a few days we did the same thing, the pool, the beach, but one day we went out in a boat and we went fishing. My brother had been asking my dad for days if we could go fishing but he had said no but one day he said yes and that was the day that we went fishing. For an hour we didn’t catch anything but the next hour my dad was lucky, he caught a big Spanish Mackerel and it was jumping around on the deck and my brother caught a small Coral Trout.
On the second last night of our stay my parents went out to dinner while my brother, my sister and I had a baby sitter and we went to the kids club for an hour and a half and the things that we did was night volleyball, relays, hermit crab races and watched a movie. In the hermit crab races I came second so I got a prize which was a bag.
When we woke up we did the normal things but with packing our stuff to get ready to go back to the cold, windy weather in Sydney. It took an hour to get to the airport and this time the flight took 2 and a half hours to get back to Sydney. I was surprised at how cold it was and I was glad to get home. Fiji was awesome and I highly recommend it! 😛
